A PROBLEM AND TWO VICTORIES

Resumo

Dear readers, and to the whole community that supports Margarida Penteado  Journal of Geomorphology with your critical eye and dedication to geomorphology, we write to share, with transparency, two events that have marked our path in recent months: a problem that hit us directly and a victory that reaffirms our ability to move forwardn.

First, the problem. Over the past two months, we faced successive hacker intrusions into the journal’s website. The impact was immediate: our deadlines were interrupted, the papers were delayed, and, in a particularly painful episode, there were losses in submissions. Files were deleted and, as a result, four articles could not have their authors identified at the time of restoration. In light of this, we acknowledge that part of what was affected remains, for us, as an irreparable gap—and yet we take responsibility for rebuilding what was compromised and for protecting what lies ahead more effectively.

To minimize the effects, we carried out a large-scale campaign on social media, asking authors to resubmit their work. It is true, however, that this mobilization—though intense—did not reach everyone who may have been affected. For that reason, we extend this appeal: if you tried to submit or resubmit a manuscript and did not see it reflected in the editorial flow, please contact us. Margarida Penteado exists to serve the community, not to leave anyone out of the process due to failures that are not their own.

In addition, we are working to enhance the page security and prevent new incidents. Measures have already begun, and the publication of this issue was delayed by one month as a consequence of this recovery, reorganization, and prevention effort. We know that a journal is rhythm: it is time for reading, for monitoring, and for collective construction. That is why we thank you for your understanding and reaffirm our commitment to return to the stability needed.

Despite the delay and the disruptions, there are also victories—and they matter. After a lot of bureaucracy, we finally managed to register the DOIs of the articles! This is a decisive step for the technical quality of Margarida Penteado , ensuring greater traceability, visibility, and continuity of the work published. We believe this advance strengthens the journal and expands the reach of scientific production that takes shape among you.

Even more: the journal’s growth can already be seen! For this issue, we more than tripled the total number of submissions received—a cause for genuine celebration. This leap does not happen by chance: it is a sign of the confidence of the geomorphology community in Brazil and South America in our editorial work. We sincerely thank all colleagues who continue to submit, review, follow, and participate in this project.

We continue on a path of growth, with responsibility, with continuous improvement, and with the community’s essential participation. May the next step come—with more security along the way and more strength for the science that drives Margarida Penteado Journal of Geomorphology.
